Hard Landscape Projects

The natural world and mans made world come together as the source of inspiration for these projects. The observations of natural forms, and architectural forms, combine with creative use of geometry to varied utilitarian results. The time spent in the rugged country constantly fascinated me. At the same time the city's surroundings and images in magazines and on TV captured in my imagination. Lines, shadows and curves. The interplay of light and reflection that abound throughout the two different worlds. I watched and recorded the way these elements react to intervention. These are a few of the resultant creations.

Whistler North

This project situated along the Whistler Trail at the north end of the Montebello development, retains the building lot above.

Falcon Ridge

Formed concrete chimney cap.
This step pattern cap covering 80" by 88" finishes off the magnificent fireplace contained in the building below. Sure a stainless steel spark arrester cap works fine, but it's not much to look at. With thousands of dollars spent on stone work to create an imposing structure why finish with such an uninspired item. A proper chimney cap defines the chimney and finishes off this entertainment pavilion beautifully.

Sunridge

Formed continuous concrete cap.
This cap follows the serpentine stone courtyard and planter walls, as well as the stairs from the grand entry to the home. A pigment was added to the concrete to contrast with the black stone used on the rest of the project.
